 Reddit is a social news website that displays what’s new and popular on the web, based on your personal preferences and what the community likes. Your preferences are determined based on your history of voting stories up or down.  All of the content on reddit is submitted and voted on by users,

The company was started by two University of Virginia grads, Alexis Ohanian and Steve Huffman. Conde Nast, owner of Wired acquired Reddit in October of 2006.

Bookmarklets can be added to your browser’s toolbar. These buttons will let you “reddit this” (submit the link, or if it’s already been submitted, share it and/or comment on it), like, dislike, and save links while you surf.

Digg is a place for people to discover and share content across the web, from the biggest online destinations to the most obscure blog. Digg surfaces the best stuff as voted on by our users.

Every article submitted to Digg has a count of how many Diggs the story has received. You need to be signed-in to Digg a story. For every registered user that clicks “Digg it” the count goes up one. If a story reaches the tipping point, then it gets promoted to the homepage.
